Community visions for the next London Plan: Conference on 4 Feb
Just Space groups are developing proposals for what should be in the next London Plan and the next step is a conference of community groups on 4 February 2016.
Now out (3 Feb): 24-page conference document: Towards…final
All the London Plans since the GLA was created in 2000 have been drafted by the Mayor and Londoners have only been able to comment, not initiate proposals. This time London’s community groups are insisting that they influence the formative stages: identifying London’s problems and needs and formulating policies.
In July 2015, the Just Space network organised five days of workshops, walkabouts and a conference to kick-start the process of creating a Community-led Plan for London and produce an initial Vision document. Since then, six working groups have been developing ideas that cut across all the Mayor’s responsibilities – housing, air quality, health, economy, climate change, transport – and have implications beyond planning. The objective is to submit a draft plan to the new Mayor during his or her first days in office in May 2016.
Space at the conference is limited and priority is being given to community groups: we’d particularly like to encourage more voluntary sector and community groups to attend. There may also be some places for others. More details about the event and about applying for tickets are here.
